Roo who doesn't crow......is there still hope?

My guy took forever to crow as well. He was the low man on the totem pole of his brothers. I decided to keep him and got rid of the other three. Still took a while but he finally crowed. it was pretty cool at first, but sometimes he likes to crow at four AM - NOT COOL. Enjoy the quiet while it lasts

He just hasn't found something worth crowing about yet.
If you really REALLY want to hear him crow, do what I do to set my Thor off. Get a rooster crowing ringtone on your cell phone - if you don't already have one. Play said ringtone where your roo is sure to hear it, but can't see you.
This method guarantees me at least an hour of crowing from Thor, as well as lots of flufflin' and bluffin'

I have two roosters, both from the same hatching. One is a crowing fool, the other--not so much. Hickory started crowing at about four weeks or 5 weeks. The are now five months old and Thistle still doesn't crow. He occasionally makes a pitiful Errrrrrr sound, but he doesn't really crow.

And I'm with you. I just

the sound of roosters crowing. Then again, I love listening to my donkeys bray, so I'm not normal and you shouldn't listen to anything I say.

I'm with everyone else...send me your non-crowing rooster and I'll send you the 6 10 week olds I have that are crowing their heads off...in the house because I can't have them outside!

I have 10 Roos all together and all crow but my Salmon Faverolle Roo Oliver, he is almost 8 months old and I hope he never crows. but with my luck hes just saving his voice , He will probably be the loudest, sharpest crower of the bunch, LOL But Im one of those people who love the sound of a rooster crowing in the morning, not so much when they start at 2 30 am and continue nonstop till around 8 am . But if your rooster never crows I got the perfect solution to the problem, one is called Sly and the other Rocky, Cuckoo Maran and a Barred Rock Roo boy are those boys loud!

i/m like you and i want a crowin rooster! otherwise it just ain/t natural! lol there/s gotta be somebody to keep them females in tow and he/s gotta be the man to do it. he/s just vocalizing his authority. a rooster without a crow is like a goat without a bleat

interesting I wonder if anybody has ever bred low corwers to low crowers before, across many generations- I would expect testosterone and fertility problems however.

Are your hens good looking enough for him?
