I posted a while ago, but I knew my chances of finding out were slim to none of determining the sex of a couple EE I bought. Now, all the pea combs have come in except for one. This one. It looks more red than the others and really has yet to develop. Any thoughts? Kinda looks like 3 rows, but the color is making me think as the others are more of a pale yellow in color. Thank you in advance

Can we see a side-on photo of the bird, standing rather than being held? To me, it looks to have female-specific colouring, particularly on the back, but the absence of a salmon breast has me questioning that. What age is s/he?

I got them at the beginning of May as chicks. The 2 that were questionable are late bloomers compared to the black/orange ones. The first photo has them both, but the one in the back is the one I am referring to.

Curiouser and curiouser. S/he looks rather young in the later pictures to have a comb so reddish, but the colouring is very much female; males don't tend to get that kind of patterning along the back.

That was throwing me as well. Now I am wondering about the other one, as s/he has blotches of brown and is not as patterned as consistent as the others. Back to the waiting game I guess. Haha. I am eager as I already have a white leghorn roo, so I could maybe have one more, def not 2!

The brown patterning could be caused by mahogany, which i believe is the only red that can display on a silver based bird. With mixes like EEs, birds can come out with interesting and unexpected traits.

Pullet.

The 3 rows in the comb usually does point to cockerel, but it can depend. I have 2 pullets that both have 3 rows.

Looks like a hen. I have Ameraucanas and the roo's have a big bump in a line on the middle of the comb. The hens have this to but not as big.
