Dark green feathers don't always mean male on a chicken. we can see male specific feathers, the fact he has a big comb and wattles is also a sign.

A friend hatched a half dozen eggs and ended up with 3 suspected cockerels. She gave me one, her sister one and she kept one. He is very sweet and docile so far.
