I picked up 8 chicks from the pullet bin at the TSC earlier in the spring. 4 Production Reds and 4 Red Sex-links. All of them are supposed to be pullets, though I have some serious doubts about one of them. It's got pretty green tail feathers, along with some green on its back, and is currently the only one of the 7 (I had to cull one a few weeks ago) with a big ole set of comb and wattles. They're currently 12-13 weeks old.

Is it a roo?

I'm thinking yes, but want to make sure.

Sorry about the pics. These little boogers just aren't all that cooperative!

If there is a specific part you'd like me to get a picture of, just let me know!

Thanks!

The comb, the tail, the size, i think are all part of it

Those pics don't show it that well, but most of the hens are noticeably larger than he is. He may well be the smallest of the lot!

My sex link Roo was smaller than the girls until recently. They are a couple weeks older than yours.

Thanks.

Not sure if we're gonna keep him. We live in the country so it isn't a problem if we do, but I'd rather not have a chicken around that isn't pulling his proverbial weight (producing eggs for us). I like the idea of a rooster in the flock, but don't want to deal with checking eggs.

I'll see how it goes. We still have a few weeks before it would matter much.

He may be off to Craig's List.

I have a black sex-link that I was concerned about because she has a bigger comb/wattles than the others, but she exhibits the stamping/squatting that all the others have been doing, and she doesn't resemble a barred rock at all. Which is what I've read the black sex-link roos do. I'm still keeping a close eye on her..lol
