My Coop
My chickens accidentally shut the coop door Monday at some point. I didn't discover this till I went out later than usual to tuck them in (aka: shut the coop up for the night and feed them). We had it propped open with a brick, since this we have added a bungee cord so it won't happen again. Every night since, most or all of them go up there at dusk. Our entire coop is enclosed in a walk in run, and there is a smaller inner run under the house. I have been picking them up and sticking them in the inner run, and then they go right up and go to bed. Do you guys think they will always go to the roof now, or can I re-train them to sleep in the house without moving them every single night? I lock them up every nigh, no access to the runs, because we are trying not to attract predators. Before Monday, they always went in the house by 9 or 9:30. It was great. I wish they would again.

Hmm, is there some way to wire off the roof area so they can't get up there? Wouldn't look pretty but it would do the trick...just thinkin' ...

That might work. Not sure how to rig it up though, the roof opens up completely, from the peak out, for cleaning and for fresh air. Maybe I should just open the roof up everyday? tThey might roost on it's edges though...I don't know that much about chicken behavior.
