Hi, I've posted here before about turkey housing. Here are a couple of recent progress photos. There is an electric fence around the pond, and a 6*14' a-frame cabin. The cabin may only accomodate the ducks, so I may have to build a second structure for the turkeys. In the meantime before the roof panels have been assembled, the turkeys seem to really like the multilevel roosting hieghts. If I built a second aframe cabin for them what would the ideal roof look like? Would the roosts be fully enclosed or left partially open to the wind? I could build outdoor roosts that extend out from the roofing (in addition to indoor roosts). We're in Ohio zone 6.

I would not build an A frame for turkeys. You can get by with a lean-to.

Even for mini turkeys? Won't they be cold in winter?
Turkeys handle the cold better than they handle heat.

Mine roost outside in all kinds of weather. January of 2023 they were roosting outside when it was -40⁰F. This past January it was -34⁰F when they were roosting out there. They suffered no ill effects.

Mini turkeys aren't that small.

I would not build an A-frame for any bird that roosts,
especially one that steep.
Lousy for trying to protect from precipitation and provide ventilation.

Might be OK for ducks tho, think they sleep on the ground mostly.
