Roofing nails in coop - dangerous for birds?

Thanks everyone!
I am having my husband read the suggestions as we speak so that he (the builder) can choose the best solution.

As far as the rigid insulation suggestion, do I then have to cover that up with something? I heard that the chickens will eat it.

If you are worried, I'd just bend the nails over from the inside after the roof is complete. You'll get the pointy part up tight against the roof and all should be well. I'd that that would be faster and easier than trying to cut each nail with a nipper -- it will hold better too

Go with shorter nails if available or maybe think short screws. Thicker plywood may help too but the adhesive idea without having to buy fasteners and more expensive plywood is probably the cheaper and easier way.

Just buy 3/4 inch plywood for the roof, roofing nails dont go through that

but if your still concerned, put beads of silica gel over the nail, giving it a soft tip.
I've never seen silica gel in anything but packets to absorb moisture. Can you explain more?
