Hi All,

Looking at starting small flock/coop for kids to raise eggs and responsibility etc. Any advice on coop size, inside and run, materials etc to help out would be greatly appreciated. Also, any ideas on run fencing to be predator safe. In Bedford NH if anyone else is in state/close ?

Thanks
Lucky Dad

! Pleased you joined us! In terms of coop size, it is recommended that you allow 4 sq. ft./bird. For run size, 10 sq. ft./bird is standard. Chickens aren't fashion minded so anything that is predator proof and draft free in the winter (but also ventilated) is great. Lots of folks use recycled or re-purposed materials...some go Taj Mahal...it's all up to you! One bit of advice - invest in hardware cloth instead of chicken wire. Hardware cloth keeps predators out - chicken wire often does not. So, at least the ground perimeter of the run - use HW cloth. Good luck to you in your adventure!!
