rookie with an incubator

NO!!!!!! God I hope you are on here to see this!!!! that is way too high on the humidity...needs to be 20 to 45

I just put 30 egg in my incubator for my first hatch. I'm excited and nervous. The temp is 99.5 and steady, but the humidity is at almost 70. Is that ok?

I'd get that humidity down some. I've done ok with 50% humidity but idealy I shoot for 40% and 101 degree temp for a still air incubator.

yeah I took the average of what everyone has told me an what I have read...the prime temp for a still air is 101...egg will be at an average of 99.5...and if you listen to people about humidity it is all over the place. I have heard from 0 to 50....I have mine at 35 percent. I only have 8 eggs in the bator and all 8 have moving embryos..candled last night. but 70 is way too high!!!!!

Thanks everyone for your input. It's finally settled at 60% which is what the instructions say is good. I have a circulated air incubator

Well here we sit in day 11! all is going well! I didn't get to candle last night (Day 10) I got stuck at work on a double shift...GRRRRRR
As soon as I got home tonight I candled and all are growing :) WOOOOHOOOO Humidity dropped just a little bit to 33 so I added some water and it is still sitting at 33...gonna give it a little bit of time and see if it comes up....

Funny story....we got 3 silkie chicks that were 4 weeks old...not able to sex yet! So we have been keeping them in the bathroom in a brooder until I can get the coop finished. We had our suspicions that two of them were roos (dont want any roos!)

their combs and wattles were growing. Well last week I found a great deal on 2 3 day old buff orpingtons and the guy wanted the splash silkie (roo) so I did the trade....was all excited...the silkies are now 11 weeks old...the very next morning I woke up to this god aweful screach coming from the bathroom.....yep the second one..my favorite is definately a ROO!!!!!.....Anyone looking for a silkie cuckoo roo?
