My main chicken feed has gone from Chick Starter to Layer Crumbles. Is it okay for my boys to eat this as well? They don't seem to mind - as they are chickens. I just want to make sure they're getting the right nutrients.

My roosters have always eaten layer crumbles without problems.

The people that say its bad usually are referring to the calcium in it (needed for strong eggs,) but I wouldnt worry about it.

Good Luck!!

The layer pellets contain too much calcium for the roo so they are not particularly good for him. That being said my roo seems perfectly healthy and I don't go through the trouble of separating him from my hens at feeding time.

I heard that once it was time for your hens to be needing layer crumbles, that your roos were also mature enough to process the extra calcium without having bone or joint problems.

Basically they're done growing, the excess will just pass on though? I could be wrong......?
