Roos or Pullets? Updated pics @ 8 weeks old...

they all look like girls to me too. Large Marge could go either way.. but her comb is still small. My pullets combs turned a little pink around that age too...

crossing fingers for you too!

Okay, so my babies are 8 weeks old today. None of them have bright red combs, but a few of their waddles are beginning to brighten up and look slightly reddish... So, here are updated pics of my girls (I hope!)

Tell me what you think? Do I have any roos?

Clementine~ I was almost convinced she was a girl, until I pulled her out of the box & her neck did this. NONE of the other one's necks have done this!!!

She was really scared as I had just put them all in a big box so I could empty the brooder (yeah, coop is still being built), and was vacuuming around them. When I pulled her out, her neck did that! I am not sure what that means... But, here she is when she is calmed down:

Here's Bellatrix. Her feathers look odd to me... we call her Conan (O'Brien), because she is the redder of the two "Reds" we have

Black Beauty ~ this one is very lean, and the most aggressive one. S/he is always running around pecking the others and chest bumping them... but there is no sign of red at all in the comb...

The last two, I am pretty sure are girls... but, I will put their pics up, since I haven't ever had babies before, and I might be wrong...

Angel, my little sweetie pie. She coos like one of those Mourning Doves. Sooo pretty & calm.

<-- love her tail feathers!

Mrs. Lovett ~ still screeching like a hawk, but was the first to learn how to cluck like a real chicken...

So, any guesses? I am hoping they're all girls, but the 4 up top are the ones concerning me the most...

There are also pics of them @ 7 weeks on my BYC page.

Oh, thanks, you guys. I am feeling so much better now.

I have been SO STRESSED, because the ornery ones can be sweet... and we can't have roosters in our 'hood.
Anyone have a clue as to why Clementine's neck did that? I felt soooo bad that she was that scared! Then, I was wondering if that was a sign of being a roo. Oh, loving these guys is way too stressful! Before my next batch, I think we'll move to the country so I can keep any roos I may get.

BA's can be totally cranky mean beasts and totally be girls - I promise. Meanest chickens I ever had were a trio of BA's - I sent two of them away and suddenly Bear decided she'd better be nice to me or get shipped off or eaten. She's better but she'll never be sweet.

She lays like a machine, fought a hawk to try and save a youngster and stood up to a fox, screaming her lungs out for me. They can be great free rangers and layers, less land = more cranky....

My four 8 week old chicks do that alot. When a robin lands in the yard, they all stick their neck feathers up. they do that when they chest bump sometimes. they do that when they sun bathe too. Oh, and thats not a sign of being a roo because my sex-link does it too!

Yeah, the neck feather raising thing is normal for both genders. And they do it at a variety of times. So, no worries!
