roos vs hawks

Oh how cute!

I agree with having a roo as a protector.

Allow me to share a brief personal experience.

June 2007, Buff Orpington rooster died protecting his flock against 3 weenie dogs.

Today, Buff Orpington/RIR x Roo fought off 2 Pit Bull mixes when they broke into my coop today.

Not a scratch on him...but we did suffer 1 fatality and 1 serious injury (she's doing okay, not sure she'll make it yet).

The Buff Orp x is the son to the one who died (he had JUST hatched a few days prior to the attack), so I would strongly say Buff Orp for a suitable breed in a roo.

I think I've figured out the secret! If I just wait to tell hubby about my chicken plans while he is watching TV or playing his computer games, I get the standard "Sounds good" response since he isn't really listening. Now I need one of those mini voice recorders... Bwahahaha!

also you can use the excuse that you don't want to over work one roo with all those hens!!!
