I am in the final stages of the building of the coop...yay! I realized yesterday that I put two side windows direcly in line, at each end, of the roost, and at roost height

. I am planning on hinging these windows at the top, with hardware wire on the inside and plexiglass on the hinged frame, allowing them to be opened and closed. Should I keep them closed all the time since they are right at the roost? Is it okay to have them open during the summer and closed during winter? Should I keep them open during the day and closed at night? Not sure which is best. Don't want to make the girls sick from drafts! Thanks!

Go by a day by day basis

If its a nice day out I would for sure keep them open. Would always keep them closed at night though, just one more line of defense.

Lol, why is it always the most obvious solutions are those most overlooked :) Thank you LeviS!

Sometimes just requires another persons perspective.

Off-topic but I can relate to this, when contemplating putting sand in my run I had asked somewhere on this forum if people dig out the run so they can get the sand deep enough or what they do. Someone replied that you could just put boards on the sides the run to hold it in.

How could I have missed that in all my planning

So nice to hear that I'm not the only one :) I think I've used so much brain power in the planning of this coop that I don't have any left!
