Roost behaviour-anyone ever watched them?

When take night pics I light them up with my head light first, which they are used to, the flash doesn't seem to bother them.

You'll need some light anyway for the camera to work at all, I think.

And for me to see where the girls are.... (and not break my neck climbing up into the coop ). More heavy rain scheduled for the weekend. Hopefully tonight will be fine, it'll motivate me to get it done. I do have a head-lamp, hopefully I can find it and use that, instead of the torch.

Ok, so they've just turned in and I got up there and back just as it was starting to rain....

One of the little girls is actually up on the roost, next to Marcy (the white sussex). Only the littlest one is on the ground, she's over in the corner. Bossy boots has the whole roost on the right to herself (and you can see she's on her feet, "ready to rumble" )

I'm going to stop worrying about the little girls. I expect that little one will join her "sisters" when she's bigger. There's room for her up there and bossy boots can hog the other roost if she wants to and the other girls are prepared to let her.

One thing I wonder, are the roosts a good 12"(30.5cm) from wall?

No only about 25cm I think. But the girls fit so I think they're ok. They use them, so they can't be too awful.

I was so surprised to see Daisy up there next to Marcy. She looks so little compared to Marcy - it's interesting that they are all up the other end to the isa browns. I hope Daphne gets up there soon, I feel sorry for her down there by herself.

Thanks, but it's fairly spartan and crappy compared to the lovely palaces some girls have. You also can't see how awful the bedding is at the moment. It's been so wet, can't really muck out in this weather although it needs it. Still, they have plenty of room in there. (I think, somebody will no doubt say otherwise )

I think your coop is just fine. It serves the purpose of securely housing your girls and keeping them out of the weather - that's what it's for

'pretty' is overrated, given ridiculous priority.
Adequate size of space is what counts most.....and ventilation.
First thing I thought when I saw your pic, was 'good space'.
