I have a barn with a room set aside for chickens. 3 sides and the roof are covered with galvanized corrugated roofing metal. The south side is covered with cattle panel with 1" chicken wire hog ringed onto that. The cattle panel gives the wall strength and keeps big predators out. The chicken wire keeps small predators out, and the chickens in. Instead of having the girls sleep on roosts in the open, I am making a roost box for them to sleep in. That's to keep the wind and cold off of them in the winter.
I would like to elevate the box off the ground maybe 3 feet and put a wire bottom on the roost house. That's so their poop just drops thru to the ground where it's easy to shovel up. What's the best wire to use for this? What will allow the poop to drop thru easily, and that the girls won't mind walking on when they are inside?
