Roost built from trees- pictures of the one I built

Yours looks interesting, justusnak. I bet your birds love it.
So far the roost is working very well, and the chickens are really enjoying it. It has enough roosting space for 20 or 25 chickens, maybe 30 if they were smaller breeds, but right now there are only a dozen chickens using it. That will be changing, so I built it big enough to expand. LOL But for now they are enjoying the extra roosting space. They roost on the bottom roost during the day for naps, or to preen their feathers, but at night they like the top 2 roosts.

I am not sure but I thought I read somewhere that the branches had to be stripped of bark or something because of mites.
I had planed on the natural roost thing for my new coop until I read that.
Anyone had mite problems with just using regular branches?

Yours is cool happy, like yours too Deb!

We left the bark on our branch roosts and haven't had a mite problem, at all, but we also use food grade DE in the coop litter and I make a white wash out of the DE, and paint the roosts with it as a mite/lice preventative.

Hope this helps!

Nice roosts. I bet the birds love them.

As a precaution, check the branches real well and make sure there are no sharp points sticking up from side branches. The birds can land on them, injure their feet, and possibly get bumblefoot.
