roost question

Should I make it level or elevated?

Hows this. Level but elevated. Mine are about 2 feet and 3 feet off the ground and about 1 foot apart.

You want them higher than the nest boxes. They like to perch up high.

My roost is 12" from the back wall and none of the chicken poop lands on the wall.

My big mistake was not making the roost long enough, it looked ok when they were young and a smaller size. The highest rung is 2.5' off the ground, but it is less than 3' long which is enough for 3 chickens, but the fourth hen roosts on top of the nest box rather than the lower rung, so I need to remodel the roost in the near future.

mine are over head....I built my coop so that ventilation runs all in front of the whole coop...

inside behind that ventilation area are my roosts, out of tree limbs and they love it as they get to see the whole yard, I so have roost steps on the back wall and this is how they get onto the limbs
