Roost size

It seems like i've read on the boards many times to have 2x4s with the wide side up, but in Storey's she says that chickens prefer 2x2s.....does it matter? What do you use? I might go on a branch hunt sometime but right now it'll be lumber.

I use a nice thick tree branch screwed into the side of the coop.

I use a 2x4 with the wide side up, and my chickens seem very happy. Supposedly when it gets really cold it helps keep their feet from getting frostbite.
