Hello! i am getting baby chicks in about a week now!! and i have there big coop set up for when they are ready to move out side. i was wondering if i spaced out my roosts well because once i installed them i thought to my self well will the full grown chickens be able to get up here? the roosts are spaced 1ft away from each other and 1ft away from the wall so that means there is a 1ft gap for them to fly up, do they need more than 1ft of space to fly up? or is this okay? also you will notice the middle roost is positioned differently it is because i want to see if the chickens like the 2x4 vertical or horizontal and i will have a camera to see. Thanks for all of your help!! IMG_8062.JPG IMG_8061.JPG IMG_8060.JPG IMG_8059.JPG

I wish I had an answer for you, but I am posting so I can see the answer when one of the chicken guru's comes by and answers.
I think I have my roosts too close together also. I can raise one of them higher, but with only 1 foot of separation, will the chicken on the higher perch poop on the lower chicken?

I am no expert so this is just from the research i have done, if the roost is 1ft away from the other roost (like yours) it should be fine even if it is elevated above the others. this is just what i have heard from the research i've done :)

They have another roost about two feet off the floor. They do fly up to that one, but I would guess they need more room than one foot to fly up. Their wing span is pretty wide and I have medium sized girls and a silkie. The step stool works really well.

okay so if i add a ladder or a stool will the 1ft spacing be fine?
