Roost the lower one how far out from the top one?

How far from the top roost should the bottom one be from the top so the girls on top don't poop on the girls on the lower roost? Planning ahead for the new chicks we will be adding.

The general rule I’ve seen is about 12” horizontal and 12” vertical. All mine are the same height and about a foot apart.

I second this. Don't go any shorter on the horizontal or they'll poop on each other. Don't go any longer on the vertical or your heavier chickens will have trouble (or at least mine do).
