Rooster acting up...

Regarding male/female recognition in chickens: How do we know everything chickens know and don't know? Don't they have a sense of smell or hormone receptors in their nasal cavities? If they do, they can probably tell males from females. Or maybe its just a size issue, or they hate baseball caps or men walk with a heavier tread (we definitely know chickens respond to ground vibration) or the deeper voices. Maybe they can see your aura! Who knows...

To me it seems like the roo is telling the SIL, "I'm second in command here and you're not getting my spot!"
