Rooster acting weird.

It’s the Dumor layers feed And I mix some Purina layena pellets omega-3 in there. And they free range.

It's a bit odd for a 5mo old cockerel to stay away from the ladies, but you are finding him in the coop eating/drinking instead of foraging with the girls - the first thing I would do after an inspection is give him some poultry vitamins and extra protein. He may be lacking in nutrition.

Personally, I prefer to feed an all flock/flock raiser feed instead of layer feed. Too much calcium in layer for cockerels/roosters and I feel they need a bit more protein.

What breed is he? Do you have photos of him?
Also...is this the same "group" that you were asking about how to treat tapeworms in the other thread?

I hope that’s all it is. One day I’ll get 4 eggs and the next only 3. It’s my first time owning chickens since I was kid living at home. So, I’m learning something new everyday about them.

If they're only 5 months they shouldn't be doing an adult molt yet.
There is a video that explains all about how eggs are made and how long it takes. Does anyone have the link they can post?
Basically, it takes about 25 hours from the time a hen lays an egg till she can do it again. So each day the next egg will come about an hour later than the previous days egg. Once her cycle finishes the egg about sundown, she may wait till the next morning to lay it. So once every week or two you might not get an egg from her. Leghorns can put out an egg per day for weeks before taking a day off. Other breeds may only lay 4 or 5 per week. Most my game birds only lay every other day till they get up a clutch of eggs, then they start sitting to hatch them.

I did see him pull a feather out from under his wing. He held it in his beak and made a sound like he was offering it to the girls.

I’ll have to search for a photo of him. I’ll get some of that feed was soon as I can this week. And yes he’s in that group. I have them some wormer coming and I plan to worm them all ASAP. I haven’t noticed any worms in his droppings. I haven’t found any in the coop at all or around where him and the lady’s have been.

That is odd unless they told him where to go for being over amorous, he may just be behaving himself as the girls should be getting ready to lay soon and can be super cranky too, I would just watch, I know my rooster was a bit solitary ones but the girls started laying and then they became friends again, but boy did he get a group pecking from all of them pretty much at one for being a little overzealous when they weren't receptive

They may not, when my hens were coming up on starting to lay I was alost ready to ask if Midol could be given to them, they were extremely grouchy, and after they started laying went back to being best friends, he may just be respecting them not wanting to be bothered right now, most guys don't like being around pms.

Quick question. Can roosters die from too much calcium. Sorry, this sounds like a stupid question but I am wondering
