So i have 20 hens and three roos. I only really want one roo and thats only because i want to be able to hatch a few eggs in case the coyotes come a'callin. So...the awkward question...can i eat a rooster and will it taste just like chicken? And if so, at what age will it be meaty enough? Sorry but there's the question(s?). Thanks

It depends on the breed, but you can eat any chicken out there. If you're worried about them being too old (over 20weeks is what some consider old), then simmer the bird with some veggies to make some FANTASTIC chicken stock, and then shred the meat to use in any shredded chicken dish.

For younger ones, you might want to call it good at 15-20 weeks and you can still roast them. By then, they're getting obnoxious, and you'll want to take care of them anyway. Your hens will thank you
