maybe a silly question, we ended up with a rooster in our flock, a new flock, and have never had a rooster! Do I need to worry about collecting our eggs!? I want edible eggs, not babies! Do I need to be concerned about picking up an egg that is fertilized ? I do not want to crack and egg with a partial grown chick....

The solution is simple. Collect the eggs every day and do not incubate them. A fertile egg is not going to develop if it is not incubated. Even if a hen lays an egg early in the day and a broody hen sits on it all day it will not develop to the point you will see anything when you crack it. Even if the egg sits in really hot weather all day as long as you collect them every day it will not develop to where it is a problem.

Just collect them every day.
