Rooster and pullet

I have a rooster and 10 hens. I saw some nice 12 week old Ameracauna pullets at the feed store yesterday and now I want one. My concern is with the rooster. What can I expect.from the rooster? They have enough sense not to mate with pullets, right?

They usually do. They know when a pullet is maturing.

You will have more attacks from the other hens than from the rooster trying to breed. Although that may happen too. Hens can be merciless especially to one lone pullet.

If you got two pullets and kept them in a separate cage in the coop and run for quite awhile the others would gradually accept them. Two pullets divides the hen's attention a bit and gives company to the newcomers.
