Rooster Attack!

Very sorry to hear about your wife's traumatic incident. Do you have any photos to share--they would be so helpful to convince people to take roosters seriously, and could save someone else from going through what she did.

We had that happen to my kids. The only one the roo would let into the pen was me because I wouldn't put up with it. I fought him back until he found I was top rooster in the pen. Worked for us... although we did finally get rid of him to a fine hispanic friend.

i play "tough guy" with my mean roo. he does a good job protecting the flock but when he jumps at me i try to grab him and keep him immobile until he calms down... i also removed his spurs because he's a real fighter... i hope you're wife's okay and im glad the guy took him back and isn't going to kill him. best of wishes~

I am less than a year into chicken keeping, but thanks to this site, I am for despuring roos. My White leghorn doesn't have points to his spurs yet, but he has gone after me and the blunt tips hurt my elbow a bit. He can also do damage with his beak and claws, but at least my kids and I won't have puncture wounds if he goes on rampage.

mine is a brown leghorn. i've raised him from a little chick and spent alot of time with him. sometimes he knows i'm mommy and i bring the treats, but if the hens are out and he feels mean he'll try at me. note that im not a very tough woman, 19 years old, 140 lbs.... but then again he's just a silly little bird with no spurs. he's still my all-time favorite. again, i am for de-spurring but not de-beaking. if any hens/roos get pecky they get the blinders.

My silver leghorn did the same. I raised him from a chick and he was like a puppy following me a round. At six months old he was quite the lover and started looking all crazy at my wife when she came in. Then he tried to jump my 3 year old. I was looking for a place for him other that the pot when my four year old when in and Carl jumped him good (no real spurs yet) and my son Noah put a hit out on Carls life. We have since put Carl in the witness relocation program (neighbor) and all is well.
We often hear him since he is next door and my boy looks in that direction with a certain look in his eye. I have a feeling one day Carls car will blow up.
