Rooster attacked and pecked my child.

I don't think I'd ever let a child get his/her face too close to an animal; they're just too unpredictable. I learned the hard way. When my son was 3 or 4 y.o., I turned my back and he tried to hug the neighbor's dog while she was eating. She nipped him next to his eye. Now, 33 y.o., he still has the scar. It wasn't the dog's fault; they're instinctively defensive/protective around food, but a child doesn't realize that. All they're thinking is, "I was just trying to be nice". Maybe the chicken was just curious about his eye. Animals don't always respond the way we think they should.

I keep a thin dowl rod to use for discipline of my chickens... When I first got my nrahmas they were fairly aggressive to my other 3 hens...pecked em, drug em round by their wings and would not let them roost...i would peck them with my dowl rod whenever they became aggressive...now they are all getti ng along fine...i dont know if my interference was actually helpful but I like to think so...now anytime they see me with the dowl rod they head the other way...also worked to keep them out of flower bed...chickens are easy to train

I posted on another thread about a roo I had. it was a barred rock an EVIL roo. sent me to the hospital. He went after my kids scratched one of them once, wouldn't let people get out their car when they came to visit. He was an awesome protector of my flock but he was a nightmare waiting to happen.

well yesterday morning id went out the house & came bk in th didnt latch
good enough & my 21 month old baby girl was sitting in floor playing
& the rooster came inside & next thing i knew he had jumped my daughter
i had alot trouble getting him off her he put 1/2 inch gashes in back of her head
in 2 places & 1 inch scratch by her ear 2 / 3 1/2 inch long scratches rt beside her eye down her beautiful face
several more 1/2 inch & 1 inch gashes in her body in her back & shoulder & in her tummy & long scratches
down her legs she had not been up from bed that long & she still had a white sleep tshirt on
it was covered in blood & i mean covered , once b4 this the rooster had knocked her down but never attacked
he really tore my baby up bad we hatched him from an egg he is 1 yr old my baby was not a threat to him
he attacked her from behind she has multiple scratches all over her body along with the 1inch & 1/2 inch gashes unsure
if his spurs or claws or beak created the gashes but she has multi gashes i believe the gashes in her head were from his beak peaking her ??? needless to say i wanted to kill him my husband said kill em he wasnt home but my mother in law didnt want me to so a friend said he would take em that rooster was too dangerous to keep with a baby im not sure if roosters do go for the
eyes my mother in law says they do but i can tell you that he almost got her rt eye he got her real good rt by the corner of her
eye just a HAIR MORE & HE CLD OF DAMAGED HER EYE with all her wounds on her face & body & her bloody tshirt youd have thought she was made up for halloween since its only 3 days away from halloween , i was so scared & so upset i was on the phone with my mother & all of a sudden i seen & heard the attack & all my mother cld hear was incoherrent screaming & that the baby was injured she didnt know what was going on needless to say i was hysterical it was traumatizing for my baby she has always loved the chickens & rooster & has petted them since they hatched & kissed them & then to suddenly be attacked ,
im thankful he is gone &my baby can be at peace the worest thing is he came in the house & attacked her from behind
she has never done any thing to the rooster , several people asked did you take her to the hospital ?????
im like no what could the ER do ??? also several people said well dont roosters carry diseases im like even if they did thats like being bitten by a rabid animal its after the fact of course with rabies there are shots , to be given but some people are ignorant wen it comes to things like this people that live on a farm ect dont run TO THE ER WEN PEAKED / SCRATCHED BY ROOSTER ECT
all that does is over burden THE ER , MY MOTHER IS A NURSE & SHE WLD NO IF MY DAUGHTER NEEDED STITCHES ECT
but my mother also believes unless a cut is really bad / deep then do not stitch it esp a child to put them thru more trauma
a few gashes on her cld of possibly taken 1/ 2 sutures but it wld cause more trauma to her & they will heal fine & are healing fine
SO THIS IS OUR ROOSTER ATTACKING STORY OCTOBER 27TH 20012 SAT DATE IT HAPPENED

There's no way I'd "give him another chance". That "second chance" might be all it takes for your child to lose her eye. He'd be history in a heartbeat and that shouldn't even be a question in my opinion. As someone else said on this thread, roosters are a dime a dozen and there are roosters out there who won't peck or attack a child in any color of clothing. Just as everyone else here, I have an opinion - and I say get rid of that roo, quickly.

I have a rooster...I enjoy watching him and the hens in the yard. They are my pets. HOWEVER I will not tolerate ANY bad behavior from any of them. If my chickens, dogs, cats etc. ever think about attacking anyone. They are dead! I would NOT keep any animal that posses a threat to me or my family. It's just not worth it!
