Rooster Attacked by Fox! Need Advice ASAP

I'm glad he's feeling better! I don't think I can help anymore, but maybe someone else can.

@casportpony, @Wyorp Rock, what do you think this guy's prospects are?

Glad the swelling went down somewhat.
As for his prospects...things can happen, but chickens are pretty resilient.

In the last photos he looks alert. The wounds from what I can see look to be healing as well.

As long as there's no pus, odors and he's staying relatively alert that's a good thing.
With him being a Silkie and he's suffered neck/head trauma as well. I would give him 400IU Vitamin E three times a week and B-Complex (1/4 tablet) three times a week.
I didn't read all OP responses  so I'm not sure what he's eating, but I would give him wet mushy feed and bits of scrambled egg.

Keep treating the wounds like you have been - it will take time for him to heal up.

I see bruising, swelling, and an otherwise recovering rooster. :) that open wound will take a lot longer to heal because it has to heal by “second intention”. This will probably be weeks, although I’ve never had to deal with a wound like that on a bird, and they do heal fast, so... lol. A wound like that on a dog would probably be 4-6 weeks to fully heal, barring any infection. Is he getting any type of anti-inflammatory? Good job taking care of this guy!

make sure that your rooster doesn't move because the slightest movement might rip a vein. The same thing happen to our hen and we applied what is called in french Argile verte. you can put some on his wounds and give him some to eat because it has antiseptic properties.

I'm so sorry I have no advice to offer! But I've read every single post on this thread and I feel so bad for your little Arnie!! But at the same time I'm so happy he's pulling thru and doing well! How is he now? Will be watching this thread for updates!

Hi! I saw this thread late; I'm sure Arnie's doing much better now. My hen had a hole with no skin, just muscle underneath. It looked similar to the hole on Arnie's back. It healed at the same time as the rest of her injury. 2 1/2+ weeks. A whole new patch of skin covering the muscle. If I see that it was more like 3 weeks, I'll edit this.
I was told I could crush augmentin, mix it with coconut oil, and freeze it. My hen loved it and I'm sure the calories helped as well.
