Rooster attacked my 5 week old chicks

I aquired a Rhode Island Red rooster from my uncle. I don't know how old he is but his spurs are about 1/2" long. I also have 6, 5-6 week old chick that I'm ready to move outside to the coop. Well I thought it was a good idea to take one of the chicks out there to try and get them aquainted, bad idea! The rooster flew over and attacked the chick.

My question is, how do I go about introducing them so he isn't going to kill my little ones?

Wait till they are bigger. In the mean time if you can, house them where they can see but not touch each other. Divide the coop and or run. That way they get to know each other while the young ones are growing up.
