RedHen--- That is what I think too... initially I thought that it might have been the comb size, but I think the way he acted last night seemed like he was mad she wouldn't let him mate her. She is back to her happy friendly self today (he is not in the tractor). I am learning that my chickens are (for the most part) happier with other chickens that look much like them.
Would this rooster do OK if we put him free ranging by himself, or does he need a girl with him? We do have a barn, but all of our chickens are currently tractored. The extended family on this farm have dogs that hunt in a pack, so we haven't free ranged any chickens, although we would love to since we are on 80 acres.
Do ya'll think if he is kept apart that this aggression toward her will change, or is it just bad personality in general?
