Just recently one of our roosters was attacked by a new puppy. The puppy is a Bullador and about 6 months old. I found the rooster about 15 minutes after the attack and I thought he was dead because he was on his back with his legs locked out. I went to pick him up and realized he was alive. I put him in a safe warm spot and have him some water. He doesn't have any puncture wounds, but he won't stop panting and he is shaking. He can hold his head up and seems alert, but he can't stand and can't sit up properly. Also, when he pants it sounds like he has mucus or something in his throat. Is there anything I can do to help him? And is he likely to make it? I'm not sure if there are any internal issues either.

Electrolytes and water. He may have internal injury. Especially around the neck and throat. The sound you describe has me concerned that his airway is compromised. Definitely in shock. A warm safe place for now, and keep monitoring. Good luck:fl

I does sound like he is in shock. I agree with @True Patriot the panting with what sounds like mucous is concerning - he may have aspirated some of his crop contents.

I would not push fluids until his breathing becomes more regular. Give him time to try to stand - even if you don't see any puncture wounds, he may still have internal injuries or spinal/nerve damage - dogs squeeze.

Let us know how he's doing - if you have photos of him, that would be good too.

Thank you to everyone who gave advice and helped. Unfortunately, he didn't make it, but I was able to sit with him in his final moments.
