Probably a dumb question but can u breed a daughter back to the sire?

Yes, it is called linebreeding. Used to strengthen desired traits. Outcrossing is necessary to increase genetic diversity, though.

What does outcrossing mean? Why not recommended?

I'm not an expert but from what I know line breeding is not bad, but you may not want to do it for many generations in a row. Birds are less likely than mammals to have real problems with inbreeding generally. Lets say the hen and roo in question produce some more nice hens and roos, outcrossing would be bringing in an unrelated hen or roo for them to produce successive progeny.

So outcrossing means not breeding sires to daughters and brothers to sisters, bringing in a totally different one from someone else?
