Rooster behavior - new rooster

Hi there!

My rooster was introduced just this last weekend and is getting along really well. He's not agressive to us at all, although, having been attacked in the past has me carrying a broom with me when I go in to visit..

I noticed a strange thing my roo, Romeo is doing. He's occasionally rubbing his comb on the ground. Sort of sweeping it across the ground and then pecking in that spot. What sort of behavior is this? Anyone else notice it?

Is he actually turning his head all the way to where the comb is what is making contact or is it more of a turning it to the side so that the side(s) of his beak will make contact?

He puts his head straight down and only his comb is brushing the ground. It's the strangest thing I've ever seen!
