Hi there.

I have a question about Rooster behavior

We have an older Rooster who has been with us since May. A week ago we added another Rooster. Rocky our Rooster isn’t happy. He has been pooping yellow/green runny diarrhea. I started Corid in the water. He wouldn’t really drink it and it doesn’t eat in the run. I took Rocky to the Vet last night and she tested his poop and she didn’t see anything. So she gave me some antibiotics for him and I have him in a kennel in the garage. When we let Rocky out away from the others Rooster he would walk around, peck on the ground and wipe his beak. But when we put him in the run with the other Rooster he would just stand there like he was sleeping.

I’m wondering if anyone has had this issue ‍♀️ Lol. We are going to give the other Rooster back at the end of the week and I’m hopijg Rocky will come around.

Thank You!

Hi! How many hens do you have? How old is rocky? Check for any injuries on Rocky, too. If you only have, let’s say, 2 hens, with 2 roosters, that’s bad and Rocky may be hurt.

Hi there. I have 35 Hens. He isn’t hurt. I checked him out and the vet checked him out. I just didn’t know If anyone has experience this or maybe I’m jumping the gun. I love him and I don’t want to see anything happen to him. Rocky is 6 years old.

I'm glad you were able to see a vet and they did some testing, gave medication.

Was Rocky perfectly fine - eating/drinking, active, mating, etc. before the new rooster - he had absolutely no problems?

How old is the new rooster?
I'm not a behaviorist that's for sure, but a few things stick out in your post.
Rocky will walk around, peck, peck, etc. when he is not where the new rooster is.
Put him with the new rooster, he's silent and still.
Does that sound right?

What's the reason for the new rooster?
I'm not dismissing your concerns about Rocky, the poop does not sound normal, but I think it could be a combination of Old meets New and declining health. Rocky may not be up to a challenge with a younger more fit rooster that is taking over his domain.

Rocky was perfectly fine when we got the other Rooster. We got the other Rooster because my Niece has to get rid of him or her parents would cull him (her parents didn’t want to take care of him). The rooster is young probably 2 yrs old If that.

I love Rocky!!! And I never knew I could Love a Rooster as much as I love him! He is a handsome Rooster and he loves to take care of his ladies.

I’m thinking Rocky is just stressed.... we will be giving the Rooster back to see how Rocky acts. But for now Rocky is in the garage and we let him out when we got home.

We are very responsible pet owners .... they are all my kids... can’t help it... that’s how we roll. Lol.
