rooster behavior

I have 4 roosters bought as hens but as theygrew is was apparant they could crow and crow they do morning OK one oclock in the morning why? and some times through the night I have had chickens before also roosters but do not know why they do this at such strange times

When it is pitch dark... they are usually quiet.

With my current long nights and short days.. I don't hear them much.

Summer time though, when it is light at all hours... they also crow at all hours.

I would think that in a city, it would be almost impossible to keep the coop dark, because no, you do NOT want to close up ventilation.

At night I only hear my roosters crow if they hear something like a dog barking or maybe a predator around or the kangaroos or something around the coop. Most nights they are quiet... Maybe rats or something disturbing your roos? Have you gone out to check when you hear them? Or have a camera?
