Rooster behavior

My flock is 8-11 months old, 9 female, 1 roo (11 mo). I simply love and adore my roo (Spatch is his name) but I don’t pet him..ever, since the time he started crowing. I address him by name and walk past him and his nearby ladies as I do daily chicken chores. All treats are presented at his feet or nearby so that I’m not seen as competing. When I have to inspect hen during the day I bring her back and put her down near him. My methods have worked for me so far. I learned here on BYC that cuddling a roo, young or old, may not always work out safely, so I decided to look without touching early on. Hope your boy settles down and you remain unharmed.

I think your on to something,
Yes, all of our 8 chickens (7 hens one rooster) have been together for 7 months. They have a nice coop with a very large pen 5 feet tall they can run around and find bugs etc.
Coop has a small chicken door for them that we close off at night, also there’s a big door in front that opens, which goes out to the back lots of room, and our back door, so it’s about 70 feet from back door to coop, we started letting the chickens out the big door (we have 2 1/2 acres)
They love it of course, I think your right, when Rodger reached puberty and raging hormones when he saw us out walking he probably thought we were invading (his) space “wrong”, so, now we don’t let them out the big door, they have to stay in their outside pen for awhile, thank you for your comment.

UPDATE: March 19, 2023
I’m sorry to say, this rooster didn’t get any nicer, if fact he got meaner and attached me and my husband, hubby had to put him down today, rooster kept attacking him, had to hit him with a board 6 times before he stopped and died, so that was that for rooster. Yes, I’m relieved and will be able to enjoy my girls now.
I don’t think I will keep anymore roosters in the future.

Sorry it went this way, but often does. At least nobody was injured, and he needed to be gone.
There are many nice polite roosters, just not this guy. This has been a learning experience for your family, so another cockerel who starts thinking bad thoughts will be obvious to you much sooner, and a good one will also be easier to spot.
Maybe a Salmon Favorelle?

Thank you for your words, we are thinking of some Americanas and Auricanas maybe try some roosters of those breeds?? We had Easter Eggers from Murray McMurray, they were beautiful, a few years ago but I got sick (Thyroid problem) we had rehome them
