Rooster brothers fighting with each other...

Some of us roosters are lovers, not fighters. HI I'm BEN "gentile Ben"View attachment 1969959

He looks like my Gerard! Is he a Buff Orpington? My Gerard is and he’s a sweet guy ;).

As four my four little bachelors, I’m not giving up hope yet. They got along fine today and there’s still the option to free range them on the two acres where their bachelor pad is located (that was actually the original plan, and I asked in a separate post the best method to get them used to their new yard and I was told it was inhumane just to free range them and not build them a shelter to keep them safe at night. A few people on that post suggested I build them a bachelor pad, so we did! Now I’ve got people telling me that was a bad idea. I just can’t seem to win here, and I’m just trying to give these little guys a chance at a good life :th).
We actually have a section of town here famous for their roosters (the theory is people started dumping roos there and it just became the place to leave unwanted roosters). Now there are at least 20 roos at a time who all live together in peace, so I know it can be done.

I’ll just keep trying and see what happens. Who knows, maybe I’ll end up with four separate living quarters for them after all :ya.

Where did you get the American game hen from? If she was a true game hen that’s the source of your issues. As already said one generation won’t turn them into a laid back layer breed rooster.
You know what can be done? Are those 20 roosters mixed with gamefowl? I highly doubt it.
Whoever told you free ranging birds completely is inhumane is a crackpot. You may be able to get away with letting them loose 24/7 with minor squabbles every now and then but you’re going to continue to have issues if you keep breeding them and plan on keeping them like layers.
All gamefowl are territorial and will fight til they can’t anymore. If they don’t they aren’t gamefowl and have been watered down like you’ve done and still have issues. You would have dead birds by now if they were full gamefowl.

The hen I rescued from my dogs (she was a stray from a neighbor who raises gamefowl, but I have no idea how pure they are and I know that some of the chicks grow up and roam free on their property - don’t know if they are constantly fighting. When I was a kid, we were given a rooster by one of the neighbors and he was pretty mellow. Also, I ended up with a chick a few years back a stray cat had caught from next door and he turned out to be a real jerk, so I’d say it is hit or miss so maybe not super pure gamefowl on the mother’s end (at least not high quality)).
And yes, those 20 roaming roosters in town are layer breeds or mixes (some bantams crosses, too).

I don’t plan on growing the flock from my four boys on the separate property. I just had trouble finding homes for them, and I don’t have the heart to eat them or dump them somewhere, so I hoped to give them a chance away from my penned flock where they can live out their lives in relative peace.
