I have had this roo running the property for months. He would make sure we were awake at 3:30 A M every day. Two days ago my wife notice he was making a funny sound and wasn't crowing. I came home from work early today and he can't make any sound, though he tries. His comb is dark blood red not his normal bright red. I think he has something caught in his throat, but I can't catch him. He was a drop off that calls our place his. He tries to drink but is not interested in food. The only other idea I have is that he got a snake bite. The rattlers are starting to came out around here. Anyone have any other thoughts.
After a 120 mile trip to the only vet that would look at a chicken on Saturday and a 176.75 bill, my wife found out what is wrong with the roo. He swallowed a screw. When she asked the vet to take it out he said NO WAY, take the bird home and have the most expensive chicken dinner you will ever have. He was right too, 176.75 plus 60 for gas plus about 10 for her lunch equals 246.75.
Hope he isn't tough too.
