Rooster change

Could someone please tell me how long I must wait between rooster change in my flock to be sure the eggs will be fertile from the new rooster and clear of the removed one. Thank you.

I have read that a roosters semen will make a hen fertile for 10 days. I'd probably give it a few extra days after the 10 and then introduce the new rooster.

3 weeks wasn't long enough for mine.

Supposedly rooster sperm only remains viable for 15 days, but I'd give it a buffer zone. 3 weeks sounds good.

Thank you newchickmom and kycklingar. Were your hens and rooster pure bred newchickenmom ? I am only asking because 3 weeks clearance time was not enough for your chicks to be the ones you wanted so I am just checking that there was no chance of throw backs due to the parents breeding. All the best.

Country freedom, I noticed that you have white orpingtons. How beautiful. I have never seen white ones. How do they come about ? Are there many ? I must search in New Zealand and see if there are any here.
