I'd like to thank all of you for your posts yesterday, they were really helpful. I contacted someone I know at the vet college who thought it was very interesting and is going to research it more deeply. Who knows, maybe this guy is the first documented case in Romania, first identified by BYC members

I've heard of this happening on occasion. A friend of mine had a Black Australorp hen go patchy with white after a molt a few years back, very similar to this bird. Never connected the dots to vitiligo in chickens before now, though! Very interesting!

This reminds me of cayuga ducks that turn white, even their legs and beak turn from black to yellow. Possibly a condition/mutation that gradually reduces the production of melanin

Very interesting about the Cayugas. I have seen that his beak has gone from the original black to white with a black tip now along with his legs not being grey and his feathers mostly white. I will post a pic when he finishes growing in his feathers.
