Rooster Chat

I've got two marans cockerels right now - a blue and a splash:

The blue one has become aggressive lately... he keeps biting me and has broken skin before. So he is probably going to become dinner. The splash one, I would really like to breed with my best easter egger hen:

I wonder what the babies will look like :)

I have one, Sir Rose, who is a Golden Laced Wyandotte. He began crowing yesterday, and today I saw him mounting his ladies. So far he's well behaved. He's the younger man compared to the hens--he was born this spring and the girls are 3 years old. I'm letting nature take its course, and since the girls don't lay as regularly as they used to and the blacksnakes get many eggs, raising babies is not a concern just now. I'd like to have babies though!

Oh and they are not very big yet but growing FAST the roosters are about 4-5 months old
The ducks about 4-5 months also

From what I understand, it's more of a concern if you have a drake and a hen, vs having a rooster and a duck. So I would think you'd be ok.

You sure are going to have some colourful chicks!!!
Very handsome rooster.

Yes, drakes can seriously injure hens (as they are so much more heavy). You will just have to keep an eye on them.

Here is my big White Leghorn rooster. He pulls the funniest faces.
He is also very well behaved. Not as friendly as Yoko but he never hurts anyone, not even predators.....which is a problem sometimes hahah.
