Rooster collars? Do they work?

I need some advice from you guys! We think we have hatched out a little boy and we love him so much! Sadly, the neighbours will probably complain when he grows older (starts to crow). Do anti-crow collars work (and how)? Will they hurt him? Please reply, anything will help

I use them alot as I'm in a neighborhood. I make mine from 2 inch wide velcro cit 8 inches long. He can still crow some but its more of a aarrggh than a full on loud crow. You do have to take it off occasionally and re adjust it. Basically all your doing is blocking him from pushing air out fast enough to get that loud crow out. Mine eats, mates, and drinks fine. They will do a backwards dance when you put it on and stand with their head down until they figure it out. But it keeps him quiet and alive.Others here have had no luck using them some use them. I make mine tight enough to get a finger between it and his neck and adjust from there.

It has to be tight and it barely muffled the sound. I tried on my boys to appease the neighbors but the benefit did not outweigh the risk and I eventually gave up on it.

If you're going to try one, make your own. The one that My
Pet Chicken sells is too narrow and doesn't work. It needs to
be at least 2 inches wide, in order to cover as much area as
possible. Unless your roo is VERY tame and doesn't mind
being handled, he'll be difficult to catch whenever you have
to adjust it, and he'll just develop a fear of you.
Start finding him a GOOD new home. It's just a matter of time.

Its a lot to think about. I really hope we can find a way to keep him. But I guess it's hard

yeah its trial and error I've always had good luck with my homemade ones some people don't.

I make mine bought a role of 2 inch wide velcro at Walmart in the sewing dept. I cut 2 pieces 8 inches long sticky side to sticky side and soft side to the neck. I do keep a check on him for sores and rubbing and I do take it off occasionally for a day or so. I have great neighbors also that don't mind him screaming at 430 am occasionally. I also have a farm north of me with a huge pen im building and he'll be going there in a few weeks and be collar free.

I have some neighbors like that to. I offered them fresh eggs they turned their noses up like I offered dog turds. Omg no thats nasty we don't eat yard eggs. Aight then enjoy those water filled 3 month old things from the store.
