His spurs are very long. He doesn’t like his feet touched so we never try to trim them. He’s never had a problem with them but he did let me touch the crack. How can I help him? He will bite if he doesn’t like what we’re doing to his feet.

Spurs are nothing more than a horny sheath covering a little fleshy nub that's all of an inch long. You can do nothing, and the spur may heal the crack or it may fall off. Or you can take a pliers and twist it lightly back and forth at the base close to the shank and lift it off when you feel it loosen.

If the spur falls off or if you remove it, it will grow back in a month or so. If you choose to remove the damaged spur, go ahead and remove the other one. That way, you won't have to trim his spurs for a year.
