Is there a way to help roosters to not crow so much? Like surgery, enclosed area so they don't see the light as much, food, meds, etc.,? PLease HELP!!!!

Do you have just one, or multiple roos? What breed?

My boy quieted down ALOT when he became the only roo in the place...

That's what they do...it's part of having a roo. I suggest you rehome him if you don't like the crowing. Surgery? Gee...seems kind of extreme....

Our rooster crowed every morning from 5:45 until sometime after I left for work nearly two hours later. Not much crowing during the day and only a little at night. Thankfully, our neighbors live a long way away.

It was just him by himself then.

Once we brought the ladies home and he found out about them, he's stopped crowing DRASTICALLY. I only heard him twice this morning. None at all yesterday.

I have been rather surprised. I assumed he would crow about the same amount (or even more) to announce his superiority to the world.

Of course, maybe (like human males) he's trying hard to not be so obnoxious ... at least until the honeymoon is over.

I just brought home a new 1 yr old roo on Sunday...and I havent heard him crow yet! Now granted I'm not up at the barn 24/7 (it's 3/4 mi away) but everytime we're there or when my DH lets them out in the morning, he hasnt crowed. He's the only boy with my 5 girls and is still in isolation. He's clucked at us quite a bit but no crowing. Guess I should thank my lucky stars cus theres a neighbor about 100 yards from him :-P

I heard you can do sergury for peacocks to keep them quite... not sure on chickens, don't see why not.

But I'm sure you will have a hard time finding a vet who can and will.

On side note I have a semrma roo... and I don't think anyone can tell its a rooster by the crow. it so...

not mine but you get the idea

My neighbor has 2 roosters that crow. One is more dominant than the other and he gets all the ladies he can handle. The other roo has a little harem but he has to get it on the sly if you know what I mean. He hangs out in the back part of the property in a seperate coop, where there are lots of bushes and hiding places. These roosters crow early and often and I really enjoy hearing them.

My rooster is just starting to crow so now we have 3 part harmony!

Crowing is what roos do. Except of course fertilize the eggs.

I love to hear my roos crow. Mine don't crow enough to satisfy me.

Send your noisy rooster my way. I'll give him the appreciation he deserves

LOL

I've been wondering this about my rooster as well.

I don't really understand when I search for answers on this issue & a lot of people seem to be offended at the idea that someone would have the audacity to ask a rooster to crow less... okay... maybe it is "what they do," but... my dog would love to tell me that eating poop, barking, & chasing horses & eating garbage all day is just "what dogs do," however that doesn't mean I want him to do it all the dang time!

At any rate... I have a ~13wk old rooster. I did NOT buy a rooster on purpose, I bought what I hoped would be 5 HENS. It is not illegal for me to have the rooster where I live, but he is driving me completely frickin' insane. He starts crowing at around 5:30am & doesn't stop for at least an hour, sometimes more- I don't always know though, since I leave for work before 7am each morning. I could handle a rooster crowing once, twice, a handful of times in the morning? But for hours straight!? I'm sorry, that's just so excessive! He is the only rooster in with the 4 hens.

I was really hoping that perhaps he would "calm down" as he got a little older... or maybe like, tomorrow even
