Rooster Crowing "too" early?

My dogs get let out at 4-5am. The light shines into the coop through their window.
My hens often get woken up by it and start complaining.

Noise ordinance can mean a complaint and having to get rid of him.

My Rooster crows at 4:00 too..

Mine have crowed in the middle of the night sometimes.

In all my rooster experience (5 total) I only have one who crows at night, the big Langshan, and it is only ever when there is a noise like nieghbor's car door, dog barking, rustling near coop, or someone on the hiking trail behind our house (it runs on the other side of a creek and sometimes at night people are drinking and a little loud for his taste).

Oh wow, good to know I'm not the only one! Mine crows at 4 and 6AM. And whenever he hears me around the coop at night. And when he hears a predator. And when the Great Blue Heron pair flies by croaking. And... well you get my drift.

Someone told me that they crow to try to make the sun rise.

I had a rooster that would crow exactly 1 hour before dawn ("You could set your watch"), he would sound off just three three times(!) then say nothing again until dawn.

My silkie does the exact same thing. He's also the first one out of the coop. Once it gets a little light he runs back in making noise to get the flock up & going. Sgt Tillman. Lol

Mine stop when the sun goes down and start when it comes up... at least so far as I know. But we live way out in the woods. I have six, all different kinds. They do crow, but not excessively imo. They’re all together now... Last night I took three of them out of the girls’ winter house and put them with the other boys. They’ve been crowing less since then, but it’s only one day of course.
