After giving my chickens some water today I heard Digger, my red frizzle cochin bantam, crow for the first time since Stormy passed. He sounds...pitiful. he used to have the most elegant crow out of all three of the boys. Just a minute ago, the crows he forced out quite literally sounded like a rubber chicken. I tried searching it up and I'm thinking it's either out of grief, or lack of competition in the flock- even though he and Stormy got along really well.

Do you know the cause of death for the other 2 roosters.. and sure this one isn't coming down with some illness? How long since Stormy has gone?

Does Digger still have hens to strut his stuff for? Or is he completely alone?

Any other odd behaviors or symptoms? Does he still come for treats, roost at night, etc? Does his breathing sound normal?

Pics aren't telling much of a story. More background information is needed to form any sort of consideration. Age, how long he's been with you, where he originally came from, etc. Sometimes videos will show more.. usually posted to another hosting site and then linked here.

Hoping all is well! :fl

For Blondie, I'm not completely sure but I imagine it was a rooster fight with Stormy (which had happened before and I intervened to stop the previous one) because Stormy was pretty beat up when we checked them that day and their feathers were all over the coop. This happened over two years ago.

Three days ago, Stormy was found laying down on his side in the coop and still alive, but looked sleepy, couldn't walk, and acted weak and quiet. Something felt off with his neck, he refused to eat and barely wanted to drink, and he had seizures shortly before he died. shortly before seizing, one leg felt stiff and had a higher resistance to bending like the other one. After he died I checked under his feathers and he was skin and bones, and what I felt that was off was that he had no crop. I searched it up and found Marek's disease was close to those symptoms but i don't think it was that because the day before he seemed just fine. I'm not sure if it was starvation or malnutrition either.

Digger has six hens to strut his stuff for. He is three years old as with all the other chickens.

He was also bought at TSC three years ago as with the other two roosters and two of the hens. The other four hens were bought at Stockdale's.
