I have a flock of 30 chickens that are 16 weeks old. Two white leghorn roosters I did not order but thought ok why not I have enough hens. Last sunday I notice the head rooster picking on a much smaller bearded crested rooster that I have. I thought ok he is just telling him I am the boss like my dogs and cats and horses do. So I just watched the little guy. Well monday night I noticed that he was sleeping outside and that " big Daddy" ( the leghorn ) is not letting him in the coop but only during the day. Yesterday we fenced in a 10 X 10 portion of our 30 x 27 chicken run built a quick shelter gave him food and water and the other three crested hens for company. this morning he was fine, I got home from work at 3pm and he was fine then. I opened the big run so that the other chicken could get out but remember they can not get to him. My husband gave the horses fresh water at 6pm and he was fine. At 8:30 pm I went to close the cooop for the night and he was dead. No signs of injury . what could have happend could he been so stressed that he did not eat even though there was food infront of him? I put the hens back in with the other chickens and noticed the food I put out for the crested had not been touched. Do chicken starve themselves when they are stressed? Sorry this is so long but I am trying to figure out what happened. I am new to the chicken thing and this is my first loss.

They can stress pretty bad. If it is just stress try getting some unfiltered(raw) apple cider vinegar and putting about a teaspoon per gallon of water. It will help with stress........... He didnt have any visible injuries and it could just be stress. Did he smell, act sick.... and alot of times snake will get in and eat the smallest, or try. Was his head slimey or anything.
