Rooster Dilema

I have a Rooster Dilema. I live in a subdivision and we were recently annexed into the city limits. I'm not sure where I stand with all my critters legally (we went to city council and we were told not to worry but given no official answer) Anyway I haven't had a rooster till now out of consideration for the neighbors but one of my new chicks has started crowing. Should I ask the neighbors if it bothers them or can I put him in the garage in a pen or should I just find him a new home. I have pygmy goats, rabbits, and 15 hens and hate to jepordize it all for one little banty rooster! (but he is awful cute) Help

Well it would never hurt to ask the neighbors. All can say is no. I am pulling for you though.

I asked my closest neighbors if it bothered them, the closest one didn't even know I had a rooster!! ( he's a loud rooster too!!)

intownfarm, one never knows what to expect from the neighbors. I think it is best to wait till someone complains... then bribe them fresh eggs. Most city folk like the sound of weed eaters and lawn mowers screaming, however the natural sound of rooster crowing can be upsetting to most?

Whatever the outcome, please don't put him in a pen in the garage...

He would be very sad and lonely. If you can't keep him, it would be better to find him a new home. Hopefully your neighbors will be fine with him though.

I agree with bigzio-if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'd just do a wait and see. If you are still clear to own the chickens, then you have a right to keep all of them unless there is an ordinance against roosters.

Thanks all. I will just wait it out I think. I think I really am not able to own any of my critters now but no one is sure if they were grandfathered in or not so I was just trying to not rock the boat. But dogs are way noiser than my little guy and I have found him a home to go to if any one complains.

I heard you can stop the roo from crowing in the early morning by putting them in a cage or pen that would keep him close to the floor!

cause they need to strech up high to crow
