Rooster doesn’t like feeder

I like these feeders because it’s covered and holds a lot of feed.
Do you have a link to this feeder so I can read what they said about it? Or a make and model so maybe I can look it up. I'd like to see what they say about it.

I understand that a lot of things sold online for chickens or anything else are often not designed that well. We see that every day on here. Prefab coops are probably the easiest example.

The general design doesn't look that bad to me if it were meant for hens, not roosters that normally have larger combs and wattles as well as larger heads. The reason I thought of this is that commercial hatcheries need to house their hens and roosters together but feed them differently. One solution is the feeders for the hens have wires that limit the size of the head that can go through while the roosters are fed in feeders hung up high enough that the hens cannot reach.

Probably overthinking it.

I think it's normal for large comb breeds.
I have leghorns and have yet to find a port feeder they'd use.
I've even made my own using 4" PVC which seemed big enough that their combs wouldn't hit but they still never would use them.

I've been using gravity feeders for mine with guards.
Even still some hens fling the feed like they are gonna win a prize.
My roosters don't like the guard, they normally nibble around what they can reach and clean up the stuff that goes flying though so it all works out.
They especially like it when I fill the feeders as they eat off the top, sometimes 4 roosters to a single feeder without worry or fights.

I had looked a feeder port options but the gravity feeder style seemd better for the roos.

Now something I have been looking at is a Kuhl 300lb range feeder... but that's a little big for your simple backyard chicken keeper.

Well, that feeder belongs to the OP. It is a rent a coop feeder and I am sure they are fairly weather resistant. Or are you talking about the picture in my post? That is the feeder I make and they are weather resistant too if you have a small shed roof over it to help when it storms.
