Hi everyone I’m a brand new member but been reading on here for about a year now and It has been a rough chicken week. About 10 days ago while my flock was free ranging they were attacked by a dog. There were 2 roosters out with them one rooster paid the price the other lived and protected the hens. Starting on the 27th the rooster that was out (Chucky) started acting sickly and wouldn’t crow by the 28th the other 2 roosters were not crowing and had dark brown mucus looking poops so I started the whole flock on corid after reading on here. Sunday I found a small puncture wound on Chucky and it didn’t stink or look infected but I treated it with silver honey. Today all 3 roosters are just hanging out like little fluffy statues and no vet in my area will see a chicken. I know it’s a long rant but thank you for any help that’s offered.

I'm so sorry about the loss of your rooster.
I hope you know who owns that dog so they can handle this.

Besides Chucky being hurt, the others may be still in shock. You could put electrolytes in their water which can help with that, but they also may just need some time to feel safe and normal again after what they went through.

Some vitamin water like Nutra Drench of Poultry Cell would help Chucky and probably all of them. I'd do that every other day for a week or so. That Silver Honey looks like that would be good stuff!

I hope they all get past this and that it doesn't happen again!

Silver honey is amazing stuff it comes in a spray and cream. I do allot of welding and it’ll heal the worst Burns quickly.

How long do they have to be off corrid before starting the vitamins? It’s been a rough chicken week for sure and I do know the dog and own the dog has bitten me and one other that I know of but the owner could care less and denies that it was their dog fault any time.

Probably sounds silly but I found a vet that will look at him in the morning, luckily there are 2 the next town over because the one laughed when I asked if there was anyone that could look at my chicken.

When a dog bites a human it's a matter for the police. Report it immediately, to the police, not the owner. The police will deal with the owner. The dog will be confiscated and put in quarantine for 14 days to make sure it shows no sign of rabies. The owner has to show proof of vaccination. Fines are levied, sometimes quite substantial ones. Not just for the biting but for "dog at large." And if the owner cannot show proof of current vaccination, more fines. These penalties will make certain the owner DOES care , and care enough to keep his dog properly confined in the future or ... take other steps to prevent future problems. NEVER let a dog - or its owner - "slide by" with biting anybody!

PS if the owner denies it was his dog that bit you, impressions will be taken of the dog's teeth and compared to the bite mark. This is as accurate as a fingerprint and will prove the dog's guilt or innocence.

Vet said Chuck is good his wounds are healing good and he got a shot of antibiotics he thinks he’s just extremely stressed from the dog attack, loosing his brother, the massive swing in the weather, it was 40-45 at night last week and the last few days it’s been 28-35. In the vets words he’s a cool chicken like really awesome. I brought him home gave him a cut up grape and some plain Greek yogurt and he went back to his favorite hen and made happy noises.
